A family in Snowdonia. (A Blog)
More than 'just' the mountains..

I am a lifelong fan of the outdoor activities and adventures to be found around the mountains and coastline of Snowdonia, or Eryri as it is known locally.
This blog is made up of selected entries from my 'Outdoor Adventure Blog' and will give an insight into what one family, based in the mountains, gets up to in its work and leisure time.

With a big gang of experienced navvies however the job was both fast and fun, by 12.30 we were in the Ffricsan (Snowdon View) quaffing a pint and a big bowl of beef stew, job done, some games of rugby to watch.
Sunday was more relaxed as we met up with the Slavens again, this time at Portmeirion. It is a bit of a tradition these days to make the most of the free entry to locals ticket that we get at the end of October, courtesy of Visit Wales.

Today the weather went from muggy to magnificent as we wondered first around the village, then the woods and finally along the beach. The kids did a fine job of destroying the peace and quiet as they ran off a geothermal vents worth of steam.
We played a game of steeplechase, sending two off with a bag of red rags and then following their trail of clues through the woodland and down onto the sand. Then it was climbing on the low cliffs, flailing around on the rope swing and wading through the deep, soft sand, no not water, sand, its a trick of the tide.

As we worked our way back in the warm sunshine the kids got wetter and wetter, in the end we gave up and laughed at them charging headlong through the pools and channels, waiting for the next one to face-plant in knee deep water.
The autumn colours had hung on long enough for us to enjoy their splendor and the low afternoon sun did us plenty of favors, Portmeirion at its best.

Cement and Sand.
Saturday had an unreasonable start for a weekend, especially having been in the pool for an hour the evening before.
Roped into a concreting fest there was no escape from the sound of the big diesel cement mixer as I pulled up at the Slavens at 8.30am.
